LSWMP Fundraising Policy and Frequently Asked Questions

 Policy:

Lee’s Summit West High School Music Parent organization supports the LSWHS Music Staff and it’s students in raising money for merchandise, equipment purchases/repairs, opportunities, and events for which the school district does not supply.

What are Group Fundraisers?

Group Fundraisers benefit the entire music department.  The money raised with these fundraisers help fund and/or offset expenses (e.g.:  awards, clinicians, transportation, LSW Music Parents scholarship, student leadership camps & other opportunities for student achievement in music, equipment, and other misc expenses) to support the music program. These monies are assigned to the LSWMP general fund.

What are Individual fundraisers?

Individual Fundraisers benefit the student as an individual.  When funds from an “individual fundraiser” are collected, they are assigned to the individual student account.

How can the Student use funds from Individual Student Accounts?

Individual accounts can be used to pay for approved Music department  items.  The following are approved items:

  • Overnight and extended trips with Music Department
  • Mandatory Fees incurred by being a member of an ensemble
  • Fees required for performance uniforms
  • Required attendance at leadership camps, or retreats
  • Purchase awards that are earned (patches, medals)
  • R7 School District Music Activity Fee

In order to transfer funds from your individual account to pay for a fee, the student must fill out the “Request to Use Student Account Funds” form

What if the Music Department goes on a special trip?

A specific trip account will be developed.  Students will be responsible to pay for the entire trip while following a pre-determined payment plan.  Any funds in the individual student account may be used for the trip.  Upon request, a transfer from the student account to the trip account will be made.  The use of individual student account funds will have a designated due date in the pre-determined payment plan.

Any balance (overpayment) of the trip account can be refunded, transferred back to personal student account, or donated to the LSWMP.  Upon request, donors can receive a receipt from LSWMP.

What happens to the funds Student’s Individual Account when they graduate?

  • A student may transfer remaining funds to a sibling.
  • The sibling must be in the Music Program to access the funds.
  • If there is not a sibling to pass funds to, the un-used balance is automatically transferred to the LSWMP general fund or may be donated to the scholarship fund to assist other music students.
